The lyrics and the piano solo of this song have been in my head for last few weeks and I don’t seem be able to get it off. Or perhaps I have not tried hard enough since there is no reason to. It goes like “It’s a quarter after one, I’m a little drunk and I need you now. Said I wouldn’t call but I lost all control and I need you now. And I don’t know how I can do without. I just need you now …”
醉過方知酒濃, 愛過方知情重. Perhaps ones need to 醉過 and 愛過 before they will fully understand and appreciate.
although 周迅 has been quite a famous artist and singer for years, it was an unfamiliar name and face to me just until a month or two ago. in last few weeks i caught up with many of her movies such as 李米的猜想, 風聲, 畫皮, 夜宴, 明明 and, even, 女人不壞. one night i even listened to her song 飄搖 over and over again until i fell to sleep. i don’t know whether it was called obsession given i have passed my teenage years many many years ago. or perhaps she does remind me of someone …
there are many versions of this timeless song. the one playing on rthk radio 2 this afternoon was from 蘇打綠. it is a good interpretation of the one from 鄧麗君.
some songs were love at first listen. some started with the singer, the song writer, a special moment or an unforgettable memory. for this one the love was started with the lyrics.
one of my itunes playlist is named after an all-time favorite song of mine: 北京一夜 (one night in beijing). the song goes like “不想再问你, 你到底在何方, 不想再思量, 你能否归来麽, 想著你的心, 想著你的脸, 想捧在胸口, 能不放就不放, one night in beijing …” it roughly translates to “don’t want to ask where you are. don’t want to think about whether you will come back or not. think about your heart. think about your face. want to hold you tight and don’t let go as long as i could. one night in beijing …”
the playlist collects 16 songs and each of them tells a different story. some are happy, some are sad, some are memorable, and some will make you want to cry. whatever your story is, hope it will always has a happy ending …
although beijing is a city where i would call second home today, back in 1989 it was rather an unfamiliar place to me. this year marks the 20th anniversary of the june 4th massacre in beijing. while some still debate over what did or did not happen 20 years ago in tianamen square, i am sure it did change the lives of many.
i remember when i first visited tianamen square about 10 years ago for the first time, the local tour guide asked me whether i carried any banner or whether i planned to protest. he said he wanted to keep a distance from me if i did plan to protest so he didn’t get caught in between. i didn’t know whether he was joking or being serious.
i didn’t know who 阿桑 was until after her life was taken by breast cancer on april 6th 2009. she was a singer and she was 34 years old. i am sure she was remembered by her family, friends and love ones for many things. for me it was this song – 温柔的慈悲.
the song 小酒窩, from 林俊杰 & 蔡卓妍, has a mandarin and a cantonese version and they both are good. who is 蔡卓妍? remember 阿 Sa from the now defunct Twins? let’s not talk about the Twins here. the important thing is 蔡卓妍 is getting used to being herself now instead of living in the shadow of the past. she will continue to be successful and will have support from me and others.
story of the movie “world without thieves” (天下無賊) mostly took place on a train from lhasa to beijing. two groups of thieves went after 60,000 RMB from someone who didn’t believe or didn’t want to believe there were thieves in the world. some wanted to steal it. some wanted to protect it from stolen and to preserve a dream.
perhaps a world without thieves is too much to ask for. however, i do believe there are more good people in the world than the bad ones.
i was told i may not fully understand or appreciate the movie Cape No. 7 (海角七號) because it is very “taiwan”. although i have never been to taiwan before, taiwan is hardly “foreign” to me.
the movie turns out to be a pleasant pleasant surprise. the story warms your heart and the music is beautiful. some may feel the elements of “japan” in the movie seem to be overwhelming or even unnecessary. it sure did stir heated debates in youtube and in other forums. is the movie really banned in china? i am glad it is not and it will be starting on feb 14 – the valentine’s day. let’s enjoy the movie and the music for what it is.
